Spray Foam Insulation R-Values

Open cell spray foams have an R-value starting near 3.7 per inch, and closed cell spray foams have an R-value between 6.0 and 7.0 per inch. It’s important to know the recommended levels of insulation for the most effective barrier from heat transfer. Your area will determine how thick you will need to apply your spray foam during installation. (R-value requirements are governed by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in each state or municipality. Please check with your AHJ to determine the correct code for your area.)

About Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation is a spray-applied polyurethane foam, which provides excellent thermal and air control characteristics, increased strength and an overall high performance insulation solution.

What Is Spray Foam Insulation?

Spray foam insulation is a two-part spray-applied polyurethane foam utilizing a mobile rig, which combines two chemical parts controlling pressure and temperatures as the insulation is applied. It provides excellent thermal and air control characteristics, sound attenuation, a high R-value, and increased strength of the structure that it is installed on. Because of its ability to deliver on all of these performance attributes in one product, instead of a combination of several products, it is a preferred all-in-one high performance building solution for contractors.

Spray Foam Insulation Benefits

Spray foam insulation is a multifaceted high performance insulation solution, reducing air infiltration, providing an excellent thermal barrier, and improving construction strength where applied.

Reduction of Air Infiltration

When spray foam insulation is used to seal small cracks, tight spaces, and other areas in a building or home, you are utilizing your HVAC system for ventilation and reducing air infiltration. Spray foam insulation helps improve indoor air quality by reducing interior pollution and allergens, as well as reducing energy consumption and improving the environment.

Excellent Thermal Barrier

When spray foam insulation is properly installed, it includes the use of a vapor barrier, which is your ally in controlling the transmission of moisture in a home or building, from both indoor and outdoor elements and activities. This reduces the likelihood of mold growth and damage to construction over time.

All-In-One Performance Solution

Since spray foam insulation provides a number of highly sought after capabilities all in one product, it reduces the need for multiple materials, applications, and contractors. Spray foam insulation reduces costs and provides an overall high performance insulation product that is widely sought after by contractors across the U.S.

Increased Strength and Durability Where Applied

Spray foam insulation is a durable insulation solution that also offers structural benefits for construction of all shapes and sizes. When applied, spray foam insulation acts like glue and supplements the strength of the overall system it is utilized within, which reduces construction costs of a building or home over time.
