Insulation Impact on Sustainanbility

As a leading insulation provider in the U.S. and Canada, we are in the business of helping our customers and their end users achieve the full energy-saving benefits that insulation products have to offer. This focus on combatting climate change through our businesses is one of our top sustainability priorities. That’s why we are able to offer sustainable insulation solutions to our customers.

Emissions Reduction

The Natural Resources Defense Council has called energy efficiency in homes the single largest invention to tackle GHG emission in the U.S. This efficiency can be achieved through various measures, including improved insulation.

Energy Initiatives

Through our products, we deliver improved energy efficiency, emissions, comfort, and air quality, thus providing significant environmental benefit.

Sustainability-Focused Brands

Many of our long standing and new partners are committed to improving environmental impacts on the world by expanding energy efficiency and reducing carbon impact of insulated buildings.

Higher Standards

Insulation on the shelf will not produce the energy efficiency that the materials’ core qualities inherently offer. The materials must be in line with best practices and the latest building science and energy codes. As a value-added distributor, Service Partners experts can guide you on these applications and codes.

Sustainability Benefits of Insulation

Product cellulose

Cellulose

  • Energy Efficiency:

A negative CO₂ footprint can be achieved. Reduces Carbon Emissions that contribute to Global Warming.

  • Environmental:

Organic (Plant-based) Recycled with high percentage of recycled material content helps lower carbon emissions by recycling waste paper.

  • Economic:

Reductions in heating and cooling costs through reduced air infiltration.

  • Attributes- Acoustic/Fire/Water Vapor:

Reductions in sound power and reduction of air infiltration typically require fire and fungicide treatment (usually non-hazardous chemicals).

  • Other Details:

Energy Star Certified Formaldehyde Free Reduces hot spots helping to equalize temperatures.

Wood Fiber

  • Energy Efficiency:

A negative CO₂ footprint can be achieved. Reduces Carbon Emissions that contribute to Global Warming.

  • Environmental:

    Organic (Plant-Based)

  • Economic:

Reduces air infiltration, helping to conserve energy.

  • Attributes- Acoustic/Fire/Water Vapor:

Vapor Open – creating a healthy indoor environment. Requires a fire and waterproof treatment (can contain chemical fire retardant).

  • Other Details:

Free of Plastics, Formaldehyde, and other Toxins.

Fiberglass

  • Energy Efficiency:

An energy-efficient, green, sustainable solution with a lower CO₂ footprint. Fiberglass slows the spread of heat and cold and can help reduce energy costs.

  • Environmental:

Inorganic Minerals – utilizing higher percentages of recyclable products. It uses lower amounts of energy to produce.

  • Economic:

New plant-based binders reduce energy consumption during manufacturing.

  • Attributes- Acoustic/Fire/Water Vapor:

A natural fire retardant but less effective against air leaks and moisture. It can be combined with a poly barrier during installation.

  • Other Details:

Long lasting, does not break down, holds up to UV, heat and wind. Energy Star Rating, used in LEED and Green Global Ratings.

Mineral Wool

  • Energy Efficiency:

Moderate CO₂ footprint with high R-values. It helps with energy conservation, helping to reduce a building’s carbon footprint.

  • Environmental:

Inorganic Minerals – utilizing recycled products.

  • Economic:

Uses waste from other industries as alternative raw materials.

  • Attributes- Acoustic/Fire/Water Vapor:

High fire resistance and sound absorbent acoustic comfort. Resists mold, fungi, and bacteria growth—water repellent, yet vapor permeable.

  • Other Details:

Non-corrosive, will not degrade pipes and wires, dimensionally stable, robust product with lower cost.

Ceiling insulation spray foam in residential home

Spray Foam

  • Energy Efficiency:

Open Cell foam has a lower CO₂ footprint with a high R-value. Closed cell foam has a moderate carbon footprint with a high r-value.

  • Environmental:

    Organic synthetic (oil-derived cellular material).

  • Economic:

Performs as an insulation air barrier, minimizes air infiltration.

  • Attributes- Acoustic/Fire/Water Vapor:

Minimizes airborne sound transmissions. Seals a building to air leaks, preventing drafts, and minimizing pollen, dust, and insects.

  • Other Details:

Adds strength and resilience to building structure.

Polyiso Product

Polyiso

WHY USE INSULATION PRODUCTS TO IMPROVE SUSTAINABILITY

Buildings are responsible for nearly 40 percent of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)*. However, insulation, when properly installed, can help reduce energy demand and the resulting emissions over the full lifecycle of any structure by up to 50 percent. In fact, the Natural Resources Defense Council has called energy efficiency in homes alone the single largest intervention to tackle GHG emissions in the U.S.** This energy efficiency can be achieved through various measures, including improved insulation.
