ALTERNATE INSTALLATION METHOD (TJL)

#4 (NOTCHED MATERIALS)

AFS originally designed this method for a contractor who was looking for a method of installation that would eliminate the concern for the rusting of sub-purlin hangers and still provide the R-value performance desired. The following “notched" installation not only does not touch the hangers, it provides an enclosed air space, not present in any open end systems.

Installation Method (fig. 4)

  1. Install the pre-notched capsheet (2), or facing, by securing corner “A" to the face of the sub-purlin (starting point ‘A’ determined by holding flange up to the end of the sub-purlin).
  2. Move across and staple corner ‘B’, pulling it tight as you staple.
  3. Move across and staple corner ‘C’, pulling it tight so as to remove any wrinkles. Move to ‘D’ repeating the same steps.
  4. Lift the notched end (1 & 3 respectively) and secure the flanges to inside of sub-purlin and finish by tacking capsheet or facing to roof deck. Remember to cut around all penetrations and tape as required.
